For a rain collector it has to actually rain. Right now many biomes don't get any rain at all, and the Border Zone is one of them. It doesn't rain in the Hub. Most of the desert areas get absolutely no rain.

They don't even have a rainy season. At least if they had a rainy season that would fill up a bunch of rain collectors every so often you could get water there, but as-is no matter how long you wait in most of the map you will literally have zero chance of rain.

Even arid areas with fertility and visible plants get zero rain ever. Honestly I think this is one of those things that will be fleshed out later. Contrary to popular belief it does rain in the desert in the real world. The soil just dont hold the water to allow other types of vegetation to grow. It rains in the Vainmainly on the plain. The Moisture Farming mod is really good and not cheaty at all since it has to be researched, requires a decently sized building to plant it in, water collects slwer than a good well, and requires power to keep it running.

Its what I use for my hydroponics setup in Hub. I have it installed in the building next to the bar with 5 small windmills on the roof to power the operation.

Best area for building a base? Hey guys! So from your experiences where are the best locations to build a base to make a good profit? With maybe some action around too! Thanks in advance!! I have no idea. I've had a variety of play throughs but each one was plagued with challenges and mistakes. I'll try to help though. South of Clownsteady. As close to the town as you can get. Fertile soil, a little water.

You get bandit groups coming by to screw with you but you can easily run them to the guards if it gets to be too much to handle. Also no wildlife, murder giraffes or spiders. Swamplands, NW of shark. This place is the rice motherload. The upside is that the money from rice sales and saki can more than bankrole a mercenary army. Holy farmlands south of Blister Hill. No bandits since they get murdered by the paladins.

Downside is that the Holy peeps are constantly coming around asking you questions about how holy you are and they are absolutely infested by those crop eating biped creatures that'll murder fuck your whole camp if you try to stop them from eating your grain.

It's a great place for wheat Near Mongrel in the foglands. I've actually avoided this area because it sounds scary but a lot of people have sworn by it.

Apparently there are no animals or bandits- just fog people. Supposedly some great soil and a lot of water. Everyone says that there are ways to deal with the fog people Not sure I want to try it.

Directly east of the hub and south of the outpost right before you enter the swamp there is a giant rock that I built my base in the shadow of. I love that familiar "coming home" feeling after your squad comes back from a long trip somewhere dangerous. My last mega base I built here on top of a mountain plateau west of the deadlands. Huge reasonably flat land with an outpost nearby for selling my products. It's also not too far from Hub. Dust bandits come by from time to time but I never found it too bad once my squad was hardened a bit.

My base if you're curious! Nice base.Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts.

And one thing I'd like is a green zone so I can get some good quality stuff growing. Is it really all over in holy territory? In fact I found an inhabited ancient ruin before I found a green biome. They're rarer than several century old ruins? Kind of amazing actually. Showing 1 - 8 of 8 comments.

Just spent a few hours looking myself, checked some old forums posts also. Type map into search function for the forums here.

You can find a whole map marked out by territory. To the north cannibal plains has some good spots but you need to fight. I'm about to search the south areas now. All I really found so far in the south is areas around Vain, but that's obviously problematic I suppose it makes sense that finding fertile green lands is a whole adventure on it's own though. I found a decent spot, well kind of.It occupies the region of the map south of Okran's Pride and east of Vain. It serves as a no-mans-land between the Shek Kingdom and the Holy Nation.

It is a relatively forgiving area, although Dust Bandits will be any fledgling settlement's downfall. It is inhabited by the occasional group of Hungry or Dust bandits and the latter's fortresseswhich constantly harass each other as well as the player.

The zone is also teeming with Tech Hunters and even has a Tech Hunter settlement known as Waystation in the south. There are a few Holy Nation settlements, but they're mostly ruins or slave camps. These are places which do not have competent inhabitants. Ancient Locations are usually lost outposts or ruins.

Beware: sometimes these locations contain territorial protectors such as Security Spiders. These are temporary locations which can spawn randomly. They usually spawn with Camp Beds which are free to use. Nests are temporary locations which can spawn randomly and typically belong to Animals. These are squads which spawn without being tied to a location, camp, or nest. This list is in order of likelihood. Aside from the occasional threat and fairly balanced growth stats for crops, the Border Zone is host to a lot of Bone Dogs.

Rarely you may encounter a pack of goats or garru wandering through your land, especially in the mountainous south or the canyons. In this sense, it provides the most diverse region in Kenshi so far for recruitment and faction choice. The only other solid attribute to The Border Zone is its abundance of iron. This zone has the Border Zone season. Seasons may cause harmful Weather Effects or be purely aesthetic.

Cancel Save.If you want to setup shop and start your own community, you need a good starting location. It's all too easy to starve, run out of water, or get slaughtered by wandering enemies. Not quite sure where to setup your base? We show you the 5 best overall locations, and then look at several other options to consider in subsequent playthroughs. Before getting into the specific areas of the map for using as a base, you need to keep in mind these four main things you need when choosing a potential location.

Note that specific resource amounts in these best Kenshi base locations may vary between playthroughs as they are generated differently, so you may need to move slightly from the exact spots we show below.

The key is to pay attention to the biome type of the area, then check your prospecting map values to see how much of each resource can be found at your prospective base location. This is easily one of the best places for a new player going with the Wandering Trader character beginning.

From this position, its easy to go to the Waystation or ruined holy outpost for supplies and materials, and caravans pass by since its near the road.

This one has more enemies to deal with, but can be worth the trade off. There's plenty of copper and iron and good opportunities to grow things, but lower access to water is the main downside, so build some wells. Make sure to defend or wall off two of three entrances to the area so you don't get overwhelmed. Further east of our first plateau base location listed above, this spot with Greenbeach to the east and Waystation to the west is an easily defensible plateau rising directly above a river.

The best part is that there's only one way up, so you don't need to worry about building a ton of walls and creating choke points, since you automatically get one. Southeast of the Waystation, this area tends to be lower on the stone resource, but has high water and fertility. There's one particular building strategy that can be really useful here. Try building your walls in a large semi-circle around a lake, then put your gates at the edge of the lake where the water meets the dirt.

If you put turrets up above the gates, you effectively force invaders to move slowly through water and get mowed down before they can enter your base. This is a different way to play that essentially forgoes the base at least until you've spent plenty of time on tech and crafting.

Rather than starting your own base, just use Stoat as your base of operations until you can afford to buy a building in the city. This allows immediate proximity to shops and the safety of living in an existing settlement, while still allowing you to craft and send out your war party to get into trouble and search for loot.Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts.

I'm in a fun spot on the N edge of the swamp right where the biome changes from arid to swamp, so I can grow both crops I wonder if you looked around if you could find all three biomes touching.

Downside is swarms of raptors at the gates. And demn swamp raptors are vicious. Though if you have a tough combat team would be fine, I started it with 3 guys with straight 1 stats other than labour from mining iron though, that was rough. Doomsday View Profile View Posts. Hiver are the best to make a small camp near, they buy all my stolen loot.

I set up my base in the Border Zone, on the crossroads roughly halfway between Squin and the eastern-most Hive Village in Vain a while ago, and recently I have been getting Cannibal raids. After a bit of searching on the interwebs, I found that the type of raid your base gets is dependent on where you settle.

Kenshi – Roadmap for New Players and Basebuilding

Is that information still valid? And if so, where should I settle to not be raided by NPCs who try to steal my people rather than my stuff? Last edited by Radon ; 23 Jul, am. Showing 1 - 15 of 21 comments. How much farther? And what kind of raids will I face there? Erei View Profile View Posts. I'm settled very close to where you say you are, perhaps even at the same place, and I haven't had any cannibal raid. But, and that may be a big "but" no pun intendedI have an outpost which is just a building and a bunch of beds in Leviathan whatever it's called, and they attack there a lot.

It's entirely possible the attack are directed to your latest built outpost. You might want to try to build a shack in the middle of nowhere and see if they attack the place instead. On the other hand, it's funny, because I kinda wish they attacked my base, maybe we should trade our cannibal party.

Last edited by Erei ; 23 Jul, am. Is there something you have to do to enable raids? I live in the Cannibal Plains directly and the closest thing I've seen to a raid is the occasional cloud of Shriekers running past my base and clashing with a cannibal patrol.

They just are. Diplomacy will likely make it different, when it's added :.

Or at least, that's how it all appears to be set up from what I can tell. There definitely seems to issues with the distance calculations, as there have been quite a few reports of cannibal raids way farther south than should be possible.

Originally posted by Shidan :. A week or so ago I had multiple Cannibal raids but not seen anything of them ever since. Last edited by yippeekiay ; 23 Jul, pm. Drakken View Profile View Posts. I had a base in the fog and i was still raided by cannibals, this is funny because cannibals and fogmen are fighting and eating each others, like the Aztecs flower wars.
